Friday, September 15, 2017 by Communications
October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month. The Domestic Violence Prevention Ministries of St. Mary/Riverside and St. Leonard/Berwyn are teaming up with Catholic Charities for a west suburban forum on responses to troubled relationships.

The forum’s objectives include heightening awareness of available resources for individuals in challenging relationships, educating and enabling the community to respond to these health and safety issues, and providing sponsors with an opportunity to share their commitment to promoting relationship safety.

Attendees: Individuals struggling with relationship safety issues as well as their families and friends, faith leaders, church members, community leaders, workers in the medical, educational, social service and philanthropic fields, and individuals with a general interest in this topic.

When: Tuesday, October 24, 2017 from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

Where: North Riverside Commons, 2401 DesPlaines Ave., North Riverside

Presenters: Charles Dahm*, OP, Director, Archdiocese of Chicago Domestic Violence Outreach; Miriam Ramirez, BSN, MacNeal Hospital Trauma Coordinator; Kathleen Detwiler, MD, a community physician; and Angelica Lopez, Domestic Violence Legal Clinic attorney. Presenters will share their perspective on family violence and explain how communities and individuals can supportively respond to those in troubled relationships. The forum will emphasize concrete services as well as next steps.

*Father Dahm, the Archdiocesan Director of Domestic Violence Outreach, has worked closely with Catholic Charities in domestic violence prevention and advocacy. This forum is an opportunity to take his message beyond Catholic parishes into the wider community.
