Artists Needed by June 1 for Annual Gala of the Arts
Wednesday, May 09, 2018 by Communications
Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of Chicago, the Midwest’s largest social services agency, is searching for artists of all mediums to make a difference for Chicagoans in need via their Emergency Assistance Program.

Artwork is needed for the nonprofit’s 17th Annual Gala of the Arts at the historic Navy Pier Grand Ballroom on Friday, September 7. Gala of the Arts attracts more than 600 of Chicago’s most philanthropic civic and community leaders. The Gala will be hosted by chair couple Dennis & Kristina Kelleher and emceed by Peggy Kusinski of NBC5.

Gala of the Arts is a creative way to gain exposure among art lovers and make a difference at the same time. Artists will also be provided with a dedicated area to meet with and interact with potential buyers. Artists donate at least 50 percent of their art sales to benefit Catholic Charities Emergency Assistance Programs.

Artists interested in participating for this year's Gala, are directed to please contact Andrea Young, Event Assistant, at ayoung@catholiccharities.net or (312) 655-7912. Applications to exhibit at Gala of the Arts are due on June 1.

Last year’s Art Show & Sale of the Gala features original artwork, photographs and giclee productions by locally and nationally recognized artists including Cousandra Armstrong, Alecia Bern, Jacqueline Blatchford, Constance Coulty, Charlotte Cziperle, Tome DeMint, Dennis Downers, Thomas Gianni, Scott Gustafson, Clara Hamlin, Jason E. Jones, Thomas Masters, Mark McMahon, Kathleen Newman, Dennis O’Malley, Linda Roxe, John Suebert and James Wilbat.

Proceeds from Gala of the Arts directly help to give people in need in the communities where you live and work a chance to move from helplessness to self-sufficiency, with 92 cents of every dollar going directly to programming and services.  The Emergency Assistance Program provides a safe place for people to go to find emergency shelter, emergency financial assistance, food, clothing, short-term case management, and referrals for long-term help. Last year, the Emergency Assistance Department served 1.8 million meals through eight food pantries and screened nearly 1,200 people for the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program. The department also received 74,000 requests for rent and utility assistance. Without the assistance provided by Catholic Charities, some of the most vulnerable people in our area would have nowhere else to turn for basic human needs. | Return
