Join Catholic Charities in Advocacy Day on behalf of our clients
Tuesday, March 14, 2017 by Communications

Today is our annual advocacy day, when Catholic Charities Board and staff members take their annual trip to Springfield on behalf of our clients and programs. Please join us by calling your local representative, senator, and the governor’s office between 1 and 3 p.m. today and ask that a full budget and revenue solution be enacted that resolves our state’s fiscal issues.

You can find your legislators here: http://www.elections.illinois.gov/DistrictLocator/DistrictOfficialSearchByAddress.aspx

The governor’s office number is: (217) 782-0244

A suggested script is below:

Hello, my name is ________ and I am a constituent from (hometown). As both your constituent and an advocate/Board of Advisor member of Catholic Charities, I wanted to let you know about two important issues to Catholic Charities. Our clients are paying the price for the state budget impasse. We need you to enact a full budget that resolves our state’s fiscal crisis.

Also, in honor of its 100th Anniversary, Catholic Charities would like to call attention to the continued – and expanding – need for the most basic of human services. We ask for your support for HB 0135, House Amendment 001 (also HB 4005), that creates a special scratch-off lottery ticket that would help fund Catholic Charities basic human needs services.

This is important to me and your other constituents, especially in light of the lack of budget. Thank you for your time.

If you are able to connect with your legislators or their staff, please send a quick email to Ann Grelecki at agreleck@catholiccharities.net. We appreciate the time you dedicate to Catholic Charities and all the good you do for our clients!
