Stop budget cuts to essential programs for older adults
Monday, August 28, 2017 by Communications

As Federal Legislators return to Washington D.C. next week to continue their work on the Federal Budget, we ask for your advocacy on behalf of the people Catholic Charities is privileged to serve.

The Labor-HHS funding bill that passed through the House Appropriations Committee (HAC) would eliminate funding for the State Health Insurance Assistance Programs (SHIPs). State Health Insurance Assistance Programs (SHIPs) are essential to the lives of older adults. SHIPs is a national program that offers one-on-one counseling and assistance to older people with Medicare and their families. SHIPs mission is to educate, advocate, counsel and empower people to make informed healthcare benefit decisions. SHIP is an independent program funded by Federal agencies and is not affiliated with the insurance industry. Its services are free of charge and greatly benefit many of the over 200,000 seniors served by Catholic Charities.

Please contact your Federal Representatives and the members of the Senate Appropriations Committee today and let them know how important it is that federally funded domestic programs stay funded in FY 2018.

Let them know you care:

"As a citizen of Illinois, I urge you to continue supporting funding for programs that ensure that Illinois’ older adults and families are protected, including the State Health Insurance Assistance Program."

We ask that you distribute alerts to others in your network, and share with family and friends. Please provide Catholic Charities Government Relations staff with feedback regarding any meetings or interactions that you have by calling (312) 655-7020 or emailing GRadvocacy@catholiccharities.net.
