More than $40,000 was raised on October 26 to benefit the Catholic Charities Casa Catalina Food Pantry and Basic Needs Center in the Back of the Yards neighborhood at the annual Ayudando Nuestras Familias cocktail reception. The Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of Chicago Latino Advisory Committee hosted the 160 attendees at the prestigious Casino Club.

For 100 years Catholic Charities has welcomed and served immigrants through a broad range of services. The Casa Catalina food pantry and basic needs center serves the needs of the Latino families in the Back of the Yards community. Each year the Center provides more than 525,000 meals to families in need and connects families to other resources like rent and utility assistance.

The reception opened with a welcome from event emcee WGN TV Anchor and Reporter Lourdes Duarte and included remarks from Latino Advisory Committee chair Clem Martin and Sister Joellen Tumas, Director of the Casa Catalina Basic Needs Center. A silent auction and raffle prizes helped make for a lively evening.
