Description: Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of Chicago is one of the largest private, not-for-profit social service agencies in the Midwest. Annually we assist more than 1 million people in Cook and Lake counties without regard to religious, ethnic, or economic background. Interns assist the Development Department in handling the large volume of events, stewardship, and administrative work that flows through the Development Department. The intern will benefit from learning how a Development Department in a large nonprofit operates. He or she would also gain on-the-job experience in event coordination, research, donor stewardship, and administrative tasks, depending on the student’s skill set and interests. Reports to: Director of Donor Relations Number of hours per week: flexible, minimum 10 hours per week Special Events/Development Intern Job Description • Identify and research potential donors, including corporations, foundations, and individuals; • Assist in creating materials needed for donor solicitation, including letters, electronic presentations, and informational packets; • Work with the Events team on the management of fundraisers including recruitment activities, donor relationship management, event logistics, on-site event management and event follow up; • Assist in the coordination and implementation of solicitation and acknowledgment mailings; • Represent the Development Department at special events and activities as requested • Support overall operations of the foundation as needed (i.e., making phone calls, copying, scanning, filing, marketing, etc.) Qualifications: Candidates for the Development Intern position must demonstrate: • Strong organizational skills • Ability to meet deadlines • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written, are essential. • Excellent internet research skills. • Knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, preferred. • Knowledge of Raiser’s Edge helpful, but not required. • Demonstrate commitment to the mission of Catholic Charities and have a passion for helping the community. • Available to work evenings and weekends for events as needed.
