Responsibilities of Interns: Help build awareness of and support for Catholic Charities’ South and Southwest Regional Services by communicating program offerings and needs to parishes, community groups, businesses, schools and other external constituents.

Special skills required/desired: Self-starter with strong interpersonal and communication skills. Creative, strong writing skills and general knowledge about digital communications and social media. Good organizational skills and attention to detail. Good Microsoft Office skills.

Interns(s) in this position will learn about: Marketing and development for non-profit organizations by promoting our services to constituent groups and potential clients and seeking support (financial and in-kind) from potential donors.

Outreach and Development Responsibilities:


1. Parish outreach
• Develop database of parish contacts in South and Southwest Regions.
• Under supervision of Regional Director, draft and send communications to parish contacts informing them about Catholic Charities programs and services and soliciting their support for agency needs.
• Contact parishes in the South and Southwest regions that are not yet participating in Parish Outreach Committees to get them to appoint representatives.
• Help plan and prepare for meetings of South and Southwest Parish Outreach Committees.

2. Community outreach
• Develop database of community groups and other constituencies in South and Southwest Regions.
• Under supervision of Regional Directors, draft and send communications to community groups informing them about Catholic Charities programs and services and soliciting their support for agency needs.
• Under supervision of Regional Director, contact community groups offering to have a Catholic Charities representative speak to their group about the agency.

3. Individual outreach
• Develop database of individuals who live in South and Southwest Regions.
• Work on projects with students and other individuals
• Develop ideas to further engage individuals/volunteers such as home gatherings, food drives, clothing collections, holiday events, etc.

4. Volunteer Development
• Develop new volunteer opportunities, write up descriptions and post on
• Monitor progress of all volunteer opportunities each week.

5. Evening Suppers
• Assists with regional suppers on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday evenings at St. Blasé in Summit, St. Ann in Hazel Crest and St. Christopher in Midlothian.


6. Helping Hands/Compassion in Action
• Solicit sponsorships and donations of items for live and silent auctions.
• Help promote sales of tickets and parish and community contacts.
• Work with Regional Director on details of event (program book, etc.).
