Description: Loom is a group of Refugee Women Artisans who create functional art, one-of-a-kind objects, clothing and accessories among other things. These are women who have fled war and violence from around the globe, at Loom they get the opportunity to form a supportive community, learn from each other and from local artists, earn an income and empower themselves in their readjustment in a new country and culture different from the ones they come from. Currently we have women from Nepal, Bhutan, Afghanistan, Burma, Sudan, Malaysia and Iraq. They meet weekly, on Tuesday evenings, to work on ongoing projects, or do workshops to learn new skills

Responsibilities of Interns:
-Call artisans when necessary, to remind them to come to the workshop or for any other reasons needed.
-Help during weekly workshop with the artisans. (Tuesdays 1pm-5:30pm)
-Implement quality control system to ensure that each product has passed quality control prior to point of sales

-Assist with sales at events when available

-Mailing online sales products when there has been a purchase and the coordinator cannot go to the post office.
-Help with office paperwork in relation to logistics
-Help with business related tasks depending on what is needed
-Contribute with marketing and promotion through Loom’s Social Media, Facebook and Instagram
-Communicating and emailing with volunteers
-Assisting with newsletter preparation
Special skills required/desired:
-Responsible, timely and reliable
-Treat the refugee women with support, cultural sensitivity and understanding
-Amicable and enthusiastic, a large part of this internship is in social relations with other people, especially with refugee women and with costumers at sales events.
-Have any type of artistic inclination or interest as minimal as it may be, since the weekly workshops are all about crafting
-Initiative to come up with new or different marketing methods to reach wider audiences
-Retail experience not required but helpful for art sale events

Interns(s) in this position will learn about:
1. Inside functioning of running a non-for-profit organization
2. Management of multiple tasks in different areas and how to change quickly the mindset (eg. Number and paperwork keeping/workshop time with the artisan women of Loom/organizational aspects of events/social media marketing)
3. Learn the different needs and treatment given to different people in an organization (eg. Refugee women/office coworkers/outsider events contacts)
4. Online newsletter preparation
5. Upkeep and functioning of business website with online sales

Hours available to work: 8 hrs per week minimum
-minimum Sophomore preferably Junior in college
