Catholic Charities Hosts Free Health Fair in Melrose Park
Tuesday, July 24, 2018 by Communications

Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of Chicago is hosting its first of three community health fairs at Lady of Mount Carmel School located at 1115 23rd Ave. in Melrose Park on July 28, 2018. The health fair offers free medical screenings and physical exams for adults and children. There will also be free back to school physicals for children.

“I received a cholesterol screening at one of the health fairs by a volunteer nurse and was advised that I was in danger of suffering a stroke,” said Teresa, a health fair client since 2008. She received a referral list of affordable local clinics and was asked to do an immediate follow-up with a doctor. “The fairs are great for people without medical insurance. I even decided to become a volunteer to help others find their diagnoses early,” she added.

“The focus of our health fairs is to provide basic medical services for all people who attend the health fair and connect them to local clinics for continuing preventative health care,” said Kate Mulvaney, Director of Health Initiatives at Catholic Charities. “Through our health fairs we collaborate with parishes, schools, and centers with high community involvement and hope to serve the uninsured and underinsured in these communities, connecting them to medical homes.”

Registration for all participants runs from 8 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. The health fair is from 9 a.m. to noon. There is no co-payment and identification is not required to receive services.
Catholic Charities Health Fairs have served to more than 4,500 people in the last five years. All of the screenings are done by medical professional volunteers, many of whom are bilingual.

Volunteers are still needed to help guide participants through the health fair. An urgent need is for bilingual, Spanish-speaking volunteers. To volunteer, or receive more information about the health fair, please call (312) 655-7441 or email
